Why I do outreach My Favorite Passion-Reading Science
My forte is making complex
scientific topics accessible
to a non-technical audience and enjoyable
to semi-technical and
technical audiences as well.

My day job is to instruct upper level college
undergraduates and graduate students
at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
(this website does not represent the U of I)

I also enjoy bringing science to kids in
middle school and high school
as well as members of the general public.

I have given seminars to colleagues
and talks to the public explaining stem cells,
common drug actions, and famous scientists!

I do outreach activities with schools and libraries to
middle school and high school students,
always looking for the interesting angle
that will make them look twice!

I also participate in established activities
at the community, state, national, and world level!

Reading Contests!

Kids Read Science and

Teens Read Science

My co-host, Jeff (of Scienticity.net) and I

closed the contest on September 22, 2010.

We have four entrants in the Teens Read Science Contest

and eight entrants in the Kids Read Science Contest

Thank you all for working so hard.

We will announce our winners on

or about November 1, 2010!

We will run it again next year,

so please tell your friends and teachers!

Watch them on Youtube!

I've been an Event Supervisor for

numerous events (Cell Biology,

Designer Genes, Heredity and

BioProcess) at the

Illinois State Science Olympiad

and the National Science Olympiad

 I occasionally assist with

U of I's Bugscope

Any school (public, private, homeschool)

anywhere in the world can collect and send

in bugs to be placed in a

for viewing remotely.

You are able to control this high tech

instrument from your computer! A team of

science lovers are on hand to chat online

and answer questions about what you see.

 I have an advisory role

for iGEM  (intenational

 Genetic Engineering Machinery )

I am the faculty coordinator for the

Bioengineering portion of the

  GAMES camp for the

Women in Engineering program.

This program is geared toward middle

and high school girls. A week long camp

exposing young ladies to some

sophisticated science. Bioengineering

is a big field. The girls make cells

glow, learn about tissue engineering,

biomechanics and much more!

Do you know a young person who has

worked hard on a project, such as one for

a science fair, and would like to

share their finding with a larger audience?

The Young Scientists Journal International

provides a place for them to publish their

results. The journal is wholly student run.

I am a member of the advisory panel.
